2024 CIPO fee increases
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is applying a one-time fee increase of 25% to most of its fees for trademarks, patents, copyright and industrial design registrations. This increase is in addition to its annual fee adjustments.
For many services, this effectively amounts to a 30% increase from 2023 CIPO fees!
To avoid CIPO’s significant 2024 fee increases, business owners should consider filing their Canadian trademarks and other IP applications/renewals before the end of this year to benefit from lower 2023 CIPO fees.
Below are some examples of the 2024 CIPO fee increases (2023 fee --> 2024 fee) :
Canadian Trademark application with 1 class of goods/services - $347.35 --> $458.00
- Each additional class in application - $105.26 --> $139.00
Canadian Trademark renewal with 1 class of goods/services - $421.02 --> $555.00
- Each additional class in registration - $131.58 --> $173.00
Canadian Industrial Design application - $430.30 --> $567.00
Canadian Patent application (regular entity) - $421.02 --> $555.00
- Request Examination - $816.00 --> $1110.00
Note: For small entity patent fees, a lower fee increase will apply.
